We’re excited to share our recent photographic production in Portugal for the outerwear brand Ten C. This project was particularly special for us, marking our first production outside of the Algarve, and we had the pleasure of shooting in the breathtaking location of Mosteiros, São Miguel, Azores.
Why This Photographic Production in Portugal Was Special
Firstly, this was our first major photographic production beyond the Algarve. The choice of Mosteiros, with its striking volcanic landscape, added a dramatic backdrop that perfectly complemented Ten C’s raincoats for their FW 2024/25 collection. Secondly, the team dynamic made it memorable. Over four days, Massimo, Oscar (our model), Erik (our talented videographer), and I worked hard, but we also shared plenty of fun moments along the way.
The Inspiration Behind the Azores Concept
The idea of shooting in the Azores came about after Massimo visited São Miguel in November for a location scouting trip with Weridesurfschool. When I saw the photos, I knew it would be the perfect spot for this production. We envisioned the stunning black rocks of Mosteiros as the ideal setting for the collection, creating a powerful contrast with the sleek raincoats.
Ten C loved the concept, and we secured a budget that allowed us to produce high-quality content for their selected jackets and raincoats. After choosing specific pieces from the collection, we began assembling the team. Although we suggested local models from the Azores, the client opted for Oscar, a surfer based in the Algarve whom we’ve worked with before. For videography, we collaborated with Erik Beck, a young and talented videographer and a friend of Massimo.
Building the Team for Ten C’s Photographic
Production
Assembling the right team is always essential, and we were fortunate to have a strong group. Massimo led the production and photography, while Erik handled the videography with precision and creativity. Oscar brought the look and style that perfectly fit Ten C’s vision. Having worked together before, we had a natural synergy that made the production flow smoothly.
Preparing for the Shoot in Mosteiros, São Miguel
Once the dates for the shoot were confirmed—May 2024—we began planning every detail, from flights to accommodation. I booked a charming villa near the location for our three-night stay. The client wanted us to capture foggy, winter-like conditions, so we had to work with the weather forecast carefully. We knew the first day offered the best chance to get the foggy atmosphere we needed since the following days were predicted to be sunny and summery.
To ensure we made the most of the conditions, we decided to start shooting at sunrise on the first day. The day before the shoot, I prepped all the outfits (which I had brought with me from Italy), while Massimo cooked a delicious pasta dinner for the crew.
Capturing the Perfect Atmosphere on the Day of the Shoot
On the day of the shoot, we began early and finished by noon, working swiftly to capture the moody, stormy vibe that fit the creative vision. Massimo and Erik were in sync, balancing photography and videography seamlessly, while I quickly adjusted and styled each outfit. Oscar was the perfect model, delivering the rugged, yet stylish look we aimed for.
After wrapping up the shoot, we celebrated with a classic Portuguese bifana (sandwich) and spent the evening reviewing the day’s work. The client was thrilled with the results,
even before any post-production work.
Post-Shoot Adventures in the Azores
With the shoot complete, we had time to enjoy the beauty of São Miguel. We surfed, explored the island’s natural wonders, and relaxed in its famous thermal springs nestled within the cliffs. Evenings were spent enjoying local cuisine and reflecting on the success of our photographic production.
Why We Love Photographic Production in Portugal
At the end of the day, this project for Ten C embodied everything we love about photographic production in Portugal: working in beautiful, inspiring locations, collaborating with talented people, and doing what we’re passionate about. It’s these kinds of experiences that remind us how privileged we are to work in such a creative and dynamic industry.
Great Job!
