In early March, I organized a surf and yoga retreat on the amazing volcanic island of Lanzarote, which is part of the Canary Islands. I had spent quite some time on this island last year, so I was excited to return and share this experience with others.
Before the retreat began, I wanted to spend some time on the island of Fuerteventura, another island that I love. This is where Massimo, my business partner of TheWild Production, had just finished working for a surf camp photoshoot, so we had the opportunity to reunite and continue working together on a new project: a lifestyle Photo Production in the Canary islands for a brand called Wiji Surf, which had asked me to collaborate with them.
I was thrilled to work with Wiji Surf, a brand that values conscious choices and promotes eco-friendly clothing.
Wiji provided us with eco-friendly clothing to wear during our time in Fuerteventura and during the retreat in Lanzarote. We would create content for them, including a lifestyle photoshoot with Massimo on our everyday life on the island with our surf community and a video during the yoga retreat.
In this post, I'll share with you our experience creating lifestyle photos for Wiji Surf, the beauty of the Canary Islands, and our love for conscious brands.
Exploring Fuerteventura for a lifestyle Photo Production in the Canary island
Our First Stop
The Canary Islands are a group of volcanic islands in the Atlantic Ocean with stunning volcanic landscapes, ocean waves, and unique geology. Me and Massimo could combine again a stunning location with a brand, capturing daily moments and surfing moments with cool people, what we are used to do already in Portugal for outdoor and fashion brands.
We spent time with Carolina Borgo, the owner of Bedreamer surf house and surf shop, who welcomed us into her home and took us surfing and to dinners. We also hung out with our friends from Portugal Ines and Isa who were running a Longboard retreat, Risingseasol with the talented Joao Dantas a surfer we had worked with before for a photo production in Algarve for a Surf brand. We even met up with our friend Marco Romano from Weridesurfschool, a surf school in Tuscany, which Massimo and I collaborate with. We spent nice time with all these people surfing and scouting locations, capturing daily photos of surf checks and our surf sessions in the water, and enjoyed the beauty of the island. Working with a sustainable brands like Wiji Surf , is important to us because we want to promote conscious choices and encourage others to make similar choices.
Lanzarote: The Surf and Yoga Retreat
After our time in Fuerteventura, I moved on to Lanzarote, where my surf and yoga retreat was set to take place.The retreat combined daily surf lessons and yoga sessions, with the aim of helping people connect with the ocean and the energy of the island. Our guests came from Milan and London, and these days away from the city were exactly what they needed. Lanzarote is home to some of the most beautiful natural wonders in the world, such as the Timanfaya National Park, which is known for its striking volcanic landscapes. The energy is unique, the ocean is powerful and full moon was coming. We practiced a lot, we surfed the ocean, we meditated in a volcano and shared stories about our life experiences and emotions during the retreat.
It was a huge success, and people left feeling emotional and fulfilled, exactly what I had hoped for. People who had never seen each other became friends in a few days, this is because emotions such as surfing, yoga and sharing in an amazing nature make us understand that we are all one. I was grateful for the support of Wiji Surf during this experience. This was the first time The Wild Production worked outside Portugal for a lifestyle Photo Production , and it means that every stunning place in the world where we could have our lifestyle and find our community could be the best location for a photo production. Overall, our time in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura was an unforgettable experience which made me understand the beauty of being able to attract brands that identify with our lifestyle, helping me better communicate with people who want to get closer to it and allowing me to continue living the life me and Massimo Have built for ourselves.
